What is Direct Aid Watson Lake?

Our Direct Aid program provides basic needs supplies for 2SLGBTQIA+ Yukoners in Watson Lake who are currently experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity and are in need of emergency support. They can expect to receive supplies such as food, winter clothing, hygiene supplies. All the supplies will be given out on a first come first serve basis until supplies last.

Who is it for?

This program is intended for folks who:

  • Self-identify as a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community

  • AND currently reside in Watson Lake or surrounding area

  • AND are currently experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness. This includes:

    • Couch surfing;

    • Staying with friends and/or family;

    • Staying in a hotel, hospital, correctional facility, drug or alcohol treatment centre; crowded living conditions (not enough rooms);

    • At emergency risk of homelessness, where one has a home but where one’s current financial or housing situation is unstable (e.g. potential job loss or inability to pay rent);

    • Housing does not meet public health and safety standards (examples include unsafe housing due to: mould, lack of running water, or violence in the home);

    • Any other similar living situations.

How do you access this program?

You can access this program by visiting our space in Watson Lake on the second Saturday of each month to pick up a direct aid package. Find more details about time and location below!

Dates: Second Saturday of every month, 12:00pm - 3:00pm

Location: 807 Frank Trail Watson Lake, YT - Northern Lights Center Building, First Floor.

Accessibility: In December and January please reach out to Austria@queeryukon.com if you need delivery assistance due to cold weather or have other accessibility needs.
