Dawson Tool Library

What is the Dawson Tool Library?

The Dawson Tool Library is a community based resource offering a collection of tools available to all community members to borrow and use. We offer a selection of tools available to borrow for up to four weeks. Safety equipment and information for all tools and equipment will be provided. We can also connect you to trained professionals who can provide access to safety training in a comfortable and supportive learning space. This program is open to all community members in Dawson and is completely free to use!

Why was this tool library created?

Queer Yukon strives to be a community led organization, and we heard from the Dawson community that this type of tool library was needed! Dawson is a small, rural community in Northern Yukon which means that accessing supplies and tools is challenging for anybody. Additionally, traditional trades spaces where folks would normally buy/borrow/rent tools can often be unwelcoming, intimidating, and sometimes unsafe for 2SLGBTQIA+ people. With our tool library, Queer Yukon is hoping to reduce some of the barriers that queer and trans folks face when accessing the resources they need to survive and thrive in a rural and remote location.

How to access this program:

  • The tool library is free to use, and works just like a regular library, but without the late fees!

  • To access this tool library please drop us an email to arrange for tool pick-ups and drop-offs

We are a small operation so please be prepared for some wait times to borrow tools as we get the program up and running.

We want to hear from you!

If you are a Dawson resident, and have ideas on how we can improve or expand this project to better serve the community, please reach out to calhoun@queeryukon.com
